Everyone has an old computer. Something that may have just been upgraded or something from years back. I went to a local fete recently and found something that I thought was worth a fiver. A Powermac!
As I write this blog entry on a 17inch PowerBook G4 at my work experiance, it just seems amazing at how cheap technology can get. I got a ZX Spectrum from a carboot sale about 2 months ago. £10. Im always on the lookout for old tech. And thats just what I found.
I went down to help set up the fair on the Saturday. Its always a good idea to help out at these sort of events. There just the sort of place bits and bobs turn up. Last year I found a small Graphics Tablet. All worked and was really good. Enjoyed doodling on it. I had to go to my granddads 80th Birthday in the afternoon, so there was nothing i could do but help when I could.
There where five of us. All of the stuff that was for sale was in a small shead. Its amazing how much you can squeese into it. Parcel after parcel. DVD + Video players, calculators, wood, beams, even a rusty macheti. There was a small grey box. It looked like a moden Compaq PC. Looking closer though, there was a small logo with a 5 different coloures. My god, its an Apple Mac. A little more looking it turned out to be a PowerMac 7100/60w.
I set it up, ran to the stall it was on and bargined. While I was doing that, a small kid looks at it and brongs his dad over (who looks like Uri Gellar). I finsh up the deal and try to get it all home. Calling my dad I get the bundle into the car.
When I get it home I see whats I get. The guy who sold it said it worked (I hoped!). I have a 17inch Apple Pro monitor, a Stylewrite II printer, keyboard and mouse, the Mac itself and all the leads and cables. Plug it in, turn it on. It works. Boots up to Mac OS 7.5.3. Nice. Speaker built in and a varity of programs. Word 5, Photoshop 3 and Ilistrator 4. Ah, time to play. But what to do with it now?
I’m not a fan of Eastenders, but this video is making me more interested!
It was a weekend that I thought would be a win in the football department. Oh it started so well, but ended so soon!
It was friday night. Youth Group had just finished. Me, James, Ben and Joe all headed down to our local fish and chip shop (St Cross Fish and Chips). I purchased a small portion of chips and a picked onion. A small portion of chips, yeah right. It could feed two people for a day. The onion, a personel taste. Joe, he purchased a Corneto (out of donated money.) He starts to open it, pulls the wrapper off and bam, it falls onto the floor. So, what to do. He picks it off the floor and starts to eat the remains of the icecream. After just using gel on his hair, he had a limited edtion strawberry and hair gel flavoured Corneto. Nice!
So we go to the Winchester Collage field, bring Jack (anouther Jack) and start to play footy. It was a good game (better than Englands). We knockd the ball into anouther field. But lucky for us, a few German students where kind enough to toss it back over.
Now, onto Englands game! England Vrs Portigue. England with such well known players such as Beckham, Rooney, Owen and Gorring-Ericson (well a player with the ladies!). It was one of the best matches I had ever seen. I dont watch footy, but this was a great game. It should have ended sooner, but there was a few disagreements. I think that the ref was a little biased! Roony got someone in the goolys, and the ref gave him a red card. Oh bugger. Portigue, how did you do it?
Football, the beautifull game!
