Just downloaded the new release of Ubuntu (7.10, Gutsy Gibbon). So far, I like it. Its pretty smart!
The GIMP 2.4
I think this is the first release of Ubuntu with an updated GIMP. I have to say, its a hell of an improvement over 2.2. Its Tangoed, which is always easier on the eyes. Cropping now has a transparent black look to it, very use full. Haven’t gotten into the nitty gritty of it, but from the front, it looks great.
F-Spot 0.4
The best photo manager on Linux, now even better. More file support and greater editing facilities. What else is there to say?
GNOME 2.20
Small little updates with 2.20. But they are things I’ve been desperate for. Examples include not having to type in your key chain every time I log on. The ability to leave messages to the currently logged on user, when the screen is locked. And of course a small Clearlooks update.
Animations
XGL (or whatever its called) works really well in this release. I’m not a big fan of it, but I may get used to it.
Pidgin 2.1
A fantastic IM client which features almost every protocol under the sun. Bloody fantastic.
So what does everyone else think?

I havn’t used it yet, but plan on putting on this here laptop soon.
Even if I just have it so I can show people what linux can be, and having a distro that’s more likely to “just work”.
I’m not a Linux n00b, but i just use it to do everyday stuff and i don’t know all the technicalities behind it …
Still, i am curious; how do i find out what version of Gnome i have?
System -> About GNOME
Oh right, thanks! Apparently i have 2.14.3.
I like the idea of people leaving you messages when you’re away and logged out. That could catch on at work!
