I spent yesterday afternoon walking round Marwell Zoo. I did get some wonderful pictures, especially of the Snow Leopards. I wasn’t the only photographer there. Herds of the snappers where wondering round, trying to take the same photos as I am.
Every semi-serious photographer had a Digital SLR and a long focus lens. I had my D40 and my 70-300mm G lens. Others had auto-focus, Vibration Reduction and a better focus range. Mine was manual-focus, vibrated like a Rampant Rabbit and a limited focus range.
I could spend money on a better lens, which I’m more than likely to do, but there will always be some other lens I’ll need. But really, Auto-focus is a must, and VR reduction is a plus. Damn you consumer-based society!
