I tried to update by Ubuntu to the (yet unreleased) next version. Unfortunately, it seems there’s a bug within the kernel. A bug which means my computer is fucked. I can’t boot fully into an X server, bur I can boot into a terminal. Not everything is lost, luckily.
I used GParted to reparation my disk, so I can install my new distro, and have my old data. However, I’m starting to think that this is a chance to try other versions of Linux. Does anybody have any distro recomendations?
[Update] Repartitioned the drive, installed Ubuntu 8.10, reconfigured X, backed up files. Reinstalled programs, done.
I had high hopes for Robotics, and it seemed to give me everything I needed as a part-time fun course. Group work, technical projects and trips galore. So I have decided to quit, and move onto another topic, which right now I do not know.
Robotics is not the problem for me, its the people. The general, average member of the Symonds robotics team is taking 7 A-Levels. Most people take a maximum of 3, sometimes 4 if their bright. I’m part of the most people, so I can’t keep up with the thought and speed of my fellow robotiers.
Basicily, I suck at building robots. However, I’m better at destroying them. If a robotics uprising occurs however, then I guess I’m your man.
As a novelty, it looks great. It even comes with a cow covered steering wheel. As a practicality, it’ll probably get vandalized in a few days.
Due to a family project I’m working on, I have just come to remember how much I love, and hate, video editing.
My parents have video footage from 1990 onwards, all shot on a Video8 camera. Now we live in the digital age, my parents want the footage put onto DVDs so that we’ll always have a copy of these moments in some form.
However, the entire process takes a long, long time. For each tape, I have to follow this process…
Video Tape + Testing + Editing + Compression + Burning To DVD + Testing = Wonderful DVD Of Memories
This takes up a lot of time and resources. Hard Drive space is limited at best, so the search for more space is needed. Plus I need somewhere to archive it digitally as well. Oh my, the list goes on.
On the plus side however, this means I have a whole load of archive footage which I can use whenever I want to add spice to my videos. Plus, I can see video from my past. I remeber bits and bobs as a kid, but video adds to it all. Anyway, with it all being digital, it means I’ll have a copy for the next 40 to 50 years at least. Something to show future relatives. Just like this blog.

Perhaps the next viral craze to spread the streets of Winchester after the
Nemew phenomenon. So then, are you a fan or Duncan Parker?
